Chairman, UGC in
his
keynote address at the inaugural function of two-day UGC
Golden Jubilee Seminar on "Private-Public partnership in Higher
Education" at the University of Calicut on 27 th
August, 2003 said that UGC aimed at a pattern of system change to meet
the challenges in the 21st
Century. The Universities would have to transform themselves into ‘knowledge

education would remain a public good even though the role of private
partnership in higher education could not be neglected. He added that
the private entities which have enormous talent and resources need to be
inducted to help the Universities to play their new roles. He also
cautioned that ‘commodification of education’ with profit motive
needs to be checked.
Dr. Syed I Hasnain, Vice Chancellor of the University, in his inaugural
address opined that higher education had become very expensive and
|
