Commission
is organizing a
two-day National Conference on
"New Directions for Language
and Literature Studies"
during
28th
– 29th November,
2003
at Rabindra Bharati
University,
Kolkata. The Conference will be
coordinated by the
Eastern
Regional Office of the UGC at
Kolkata. The objective of
the
conference is to revamp
and
strengthen the
teaching of
languages and literature
in
colleges and universities and
to
gather inputs for the UGC
to
formulate schemes
and
programmes in this direction. A
National Organising Committee
drawing
expertise from
universities,
Sahithya
Academies and different
Language and Literature
Institutes is entrusted with
the deliberations of
the
Conference. Experts and
resource
persons in
different
areas of
undergraduate
and
postgraduate teaching
in
the
languages and literature
disciplines have agreed to
give lectures and
make
presentations on the various
themes. The broad themes
of the Conference are the
following:

proficiency
in Languages.
. Role of Language
and

Literature in the age of ICT.
. Interdisciplinary approaches
to literature studies in the
context of linguistic diversity
and cultural unity.
. Language through Literature
. Leterature for Humanistic
values.

. Technology-enabled Learning
of Languages.
. Functional Language studies
. Role of Translation in
Language Learning.
. Comparative Literature
Foreign Language Studies.
. Language, Literature and
Culture.
In addition
to invited lectures
and panel discussions, there
will be provision for
a few
selected paper presentations
by teachers from
Colleges and
Universities on
innovative
approaches for language and
literature teaching. A National
