Prof. G.D. Sharma, New Director for the Consortium for Educational Communication

Dr. G.D.Sharma, Senior Fellow & Head, Higher Education Unit, National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), has joined as the new Director for the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), New Delhi for a period of five years. Dr. Sharma, a distinguished economist has also served as the Secretary of the University Grants Commission. Earlier, he has served as Director, IIE, Pune and as a Consultant of UNESCO, UNDP and IIEP, Paris. He has also worked in various capacities in the Department of Economics in University of Mumbai and Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. He has published extensively on various aspects of higher education. He has been Member/Convenor of several committees of UGC and Government of India.
CEC is an autonomous body set up by the UGC as an Inter- University Centre. It is the nodal agency which co-ordinates the educational programmes produced by the 7 Educational Media Research Centres (EMRCs) and 10 Audio Visual Research Centres (AVRCs) sponsored by the UGC in different Universities

UGC-Plan Monitoring 
Committee

The University Grants Commission has constituted a Plan Monitoring Committee under the Chairmanship of Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chairman, UGC. The other members are Prof. Ved Prakash, Secretary UGC, Dr. R. K. Chauhan, Additional Secretary and Dr. C.S. Meena, Joint Secretary. The Committee will review the progress of the Plan schemes in the UGC as well as higher education institutions. The Committee will periodically review the progress of the institutions and provide inputs to the Commission. The Committee will also have interface meetings with the institutions for academic monitoring.

Dr. R.K. Chauhan joins back UGC

        UGC,   New   Delhi  as Additional Secretary in September, 2003. Earlier, he was on deputation for three years (2000-03) as the Vice Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University, Hissar. During his tenure as Vice Chancellor, the  University    got   many   quality 
programmes                            from

the Ministry of Food Processing Industries and assistance from Distance Education Council, Dept. of Biotechnology, Dept. of Atomic Energy and Dept. of Science & Technology. The University has been accredited by National Accreditation and Assessment Council             (NAAC),       with
‘A’ Grade.


 
Dr. Arun Nigavekar, Chairman, UGC has been honoured with Shiromani
  Award-2002. Shiromani Awards were instituted in the year 1977 for
 honouring persons of eminence in various walks of life.
