Rashtreeya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati and Prof. Keshab Chandra Dash, Dept. of Nyaya Darshan, Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwa-vidyalaya, Puri have been selected for Veda Vyas National Sanskrit Awards for the years 2002 

and 2003 respectively. An expert in Prachina Nyaya, Navya Nyaya, Dvaita Vedanta and Vyakarana Sastra, Dr. Char has contributed significantly to the teaching and research in these areas. Prof. Dash, besides an expert in Panini grammar, computa-tional linguistics and Indian philoso-phy, is a creative writer in Sanskrit.
The University Grants Commission has instituted Veda Vyas National Sanskrit Award to promote quality teaching and research in Sanskrit. 

Each year nominations are invited through the Vice Chancellors of the universities for the award. All teachers in the departments of Sanskrit in universities and colleges who have contributed significantly to teaching, research and promotion of Sanskrit language and literature are eligible for consideration for the award. The award carries a citation, medal and a cash prize of Rs. 1.00 lakh each.


India-Italy Accord for Cooperation in Science & Technology

      ndia   and  Italy   signed  a  new
      agreement   for   co-operation in
frontier areas of Science and Technology which will replace the earlier Indo-Italian S & T agreement of 1978. The new accord was signed between Italian Deputy Foreign Minister 
Ms. Margherita Boniver and the Indian Minister of State for Science and Technology Shri Bachi Singh Rawat. Ms. Boniver after signing the accord stated that the new agreement would pave the way for enhanced collaboration in scientific and technological fields not only with Rome but the entire 

European Union Nations. The Italian Minister said that joint projects will be promoted through the European Union and other international organizations for funding and joint technology transfer. The new accord provides for access and utilization of advanced research facilities in each other's country; virtual networking of scientific research laboratories and academia from both sides; establishment of joint research centres and labs as well as joint centres of excellence. A joint committee will be constituted to identify, approve and review the 

progress of implementation of the programmes of co-operation. The fields identified for collaboration include aerospace, energy, nano-technologies, information technology, electronics and civil engineering, telecommunications, design engineering and technology, advanced materials and bio-medical science. The new agreement provides for comprehensive autonomy in the execution of scientific projects as well as takes care of IPR protection in joint research projects.
