Dr. C.V. Raman, Nobel Laureate, opening the Centenary Science Symposium, Madras University, Chenai, 1957 (Inset : The Historic Senate House completed in 1873. An architectural masterpiece of Robert Fellows Chisholm, the Senate House was designed in the Indo-Sarcenic Style, blending such Byzantine and European architectural features as domes, minarets and arcades. It is used for meetings of the senate, syndicate and academic department. Its main hall was used for convocations for over a hundred years. It also housed administrative offices of the University. It is a heritage building and is under renovation now.)
