has nominated

Award,
each of Rs. 50,000/-, in the following
fields for the year 2002 and 2003:
1. Sir C.V. Raman Award for Research in Physical
Sciences
2002 Rajpal Singh Sirohi, Director,
Indian Institue of Technology, Delhi.
He has done experimental work with
significant application, in
Applied
Optics with sub-areas like holography,
optical instrumentation,
speckle
metrology, surface profilometry, testing methods, etc.He
has also developed several optical instruments, two of
them are in market.
2003 Prof. Ajay K. Sood, Prof.
of
Physics, Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore. He has made experimental
contributions to contemporary aspects
of condensed matter physics, such as
flow induced voltage generation
in
carbon nanotubes, squeezed states
of phonons by
ultrafast laser pulses, pressure- induced transitions
in
fullerenes, confined and interface
phonons in
semiconductor superlattices and soft condensed matter
like colloids and surfactant-based systems.
2. Homi J. Bhabha Award for the Research in
Applied Sciences
2002 Prof. C.V. Dharamadhikari,
Dept. of Physics, University of Pune.
He has done pioneering work in the
development of
sophisticated
techniques of Scanning
Probe
Microscopy (SPM). He
has |
developed a Nanotech-STM facility and utilized it for nanolithography on gold and silicon single crystal surfaces.
2003 Prof. B.B. Chaudhuri, Prof. &
Head, Computer Vision and Pattern
Recognition Unit, Indian
Statistical
Institute, Calcutta. He
has made
contributions in Pattern Recognition,
Image Processing, Data Compression,
Natural Language Processing, Speech Technology and
Digital Document Processing.
3. Meghnad Saha Award for Research in theoretical Sciences
2002 Dr. Manindra Agrawal, Dept.
of Computer Science & Engg., Indian
Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He has
developed a
deterministic
polynomial-time algorithm for testing the
primality of a number.
2003 Prof. Dilip Govind Kanhere,
Dept. of Physics, University of Pune.
He has contributed significantly in the
field of condensed matter physics and
developing applications in the area of
electronic structure calculations
and
numerical simulations of strongly correlated systems.
4. Jagdish Chandra Bose Award for Research in Life Sciences
