    ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
    Golden Jubilee Seminars
           •
These Seminars  are  being organised in Universities
              throughout the country  on current issues related to
              higher education.
    Golden Jubilee Lectures
           •
Golden   Jubilee    Lectures    are    being    organised
              throughout   the  country  by eminent educationists
              on  contemporary    themes    in    higher    education.
     UGC Logo
           •
A   process  of  designing  a  new logo for UGC  was
              initiated  in  view  of  the  changed  scenario  of   the
              Indian  higher  education  system   and   the   role of 
              UGC  during  the  last  50 years. Entries were invited
              from 26  institutions  of  Arts  &  Applied  Arts.  370
              entries,  were  evaluated  by  an expert committee. 10
              best   entries   were   shortlisted   and   five   designs
              selected.  To further  improve on the designs a three
             day workshop was held at MS University, Vadodara.
             A  Committee   of  UGC  Commission  Members with
             Vice-Chairman as  the Chairperson of the Committee
             was constituted to evaluate the UGC logo. A meeting
             with   Expert   Committee   Members   was   also held.
             Finally,  an  exhibition  of  the  five logos was held at
             UGC  Building  from  20th - 22nd
  October,  2003  and
             inputs from the viewers including the UGC staff were
             taken. The final decision on the logo will be taken by
             the   Commission   in    consultation    with     experts.

      History of UGC
         •
The book "The History of UGC" would cover the
            period since UGC’s inception in 1953 till date. It
            would highlight the various milestones
            achieved/landmark decisions taken during UGC’s
            fifty years of journey besides focusing on its thrust
            areas during the various plan periods.

    
   Higher Education in India : Policies, Planning & 
    Implementation
           •
A  joint venture  of UGC and the Centre for Research in
               Rural      and      Industrial        Development     (CRRID),
               Chandigarh, this book will serve as a reference material
               for      policy     makers,     educational     administrators,
               researchers, students and teachers.

   OTHER ACTIVITES

           • Cultural Activities
   Get together for Ex -UGC employees
           •
Function  will  be  organized  at  FICCI  Auditorium    for
              Ex-UGC employees on 24
th November, 2003.

   Cultural Programme on 19th and 20th December, 2003 at
   Sri Ram Centre, New Delhi.
           • Cultural performance by talented students from various
              universities.   A   preliminary  performance  of the teams
              selected   by   Universities   would   be   held   on    22nd
              November 2003 in New Delhi.

   Golden Jubilee Concluding function at Vigyan Bhavan on
    28.12.2003
         •
The  concluding  function of the Golden Jubilee Year will
             be  held  at  Vigyan  Bhavan  on 28th December, 2003, at
            10.00 a.m. Prof. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Hon’ble President of
             India will be the Chief Guest. Prof. M.M. Joshi, HRM will
             preside over the function.


Farewell….

    Dr.   Gurbaksh     Singh,
     Additional     Secretary,
     retired from the services
     of the UGC on 31
st July,
     2003.   Dr .Singh joined
     the   UGC   in   1981   as
    Education    Officer    and    served   the
    organization  for over  22 years. During
    these years  he rendered distinguished
    service   in     various    capacities   and
    handled  various important schemes of
    the UGC.

            hri    B.R.   Sharma,  Section Officer,
            retired     from  the  services  of the
  UGC  on   31
st  August,  2003. He joined
  UGC   on     18
th    January,    1965    and
  rendered         38       years      of   service.

            hri       Sohanvir    Singh,     Section
            Officer,  retired   from   the services
   of the UGC on 30
th September, 2003. He
   joined the UGC on 12
th November, 1964
   and served it for 39 years.

            hri    Ghanshyam, LDC,  retired from
            the     services   of   the UGC on 31
st
  October,  2003. Shri   Ghanshyam   joined
  UGC on   1
st June, 1985 and worked for 18
  years.

             hri    G.     C.     Naithani,      Canteen
             Manager,  retired  from the services
  of    the    UGC  on  31
st October,  2003. He
   joined UGC  on 12
th November, 1990 and
   rendered 13 years of service.
