Inter University Centre- Department of Atomic Energy Facilities (IUC-DAEF), Indore (M.P.)
was established in 1990 with the objective of providing DAE facilities like Dhruva Reactor, Mumbai, synchrotron Radiation Source, Indore and Variable Energy Cyclotron, Kolkata, to the university scientific community. The three
Centres of IUC-DAEF at Mumbai, Indore and Kolkata have extensive infrastructure facilities
and the main areas of research and
development activities are the following: 1.
Indore Centre is focussing on utilization of the Synchrotron Radiation Source. The facilities
are provided for experimental condensed matter studies, electron spectroscopic studies, macroscopic studies of transport, magnetic, dielectric and thermal properties, material synthesis, SEM, AFM, X-Ray Reflectivity and Ultra thin film deposition system. 2. At Dhruva Reactor Hall, BARC, Mumbai, experiments using neutrons are being carried out. 3. The IUC-DAEF Kolkata Centre is engaged in experiments involving energetic ion beams, electron beams and nuclear techniques.
Strengthening of Infrastructure for Science
and Technology – ASIST Programme
The University Grants Commission assists selected science, engineering and technology departments in universities to enable them to acquire costly equipment (which otherwise cannot be approved under other schemes of UGC) so that they can attain excellence in post graduate education and research. This scheme is in operation since 1983 and 221 departments have been assisted/selected for support so far. The quantum of assistance under this scheme is upto Rs.100.00 lakhs to a department.




DAAD Fellowships
2004-05
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) this year offered seven Long-term fellowships for the academic year 2004-05 as follows: (i) Research fellowships for young scholars and recent post doctoral scholars. (ii) Sandwich model fellowship for Ph.D. registered scholars (iii) Fellowships for a doctorate degree from a German University, preferably for structured doctoral studies programmes. The fellowships offered are in the following fields: - Natural Sciences - Humanities and Social Sciences (Linguistics, History, Philosophy, Sociology, Economics), - Law, - German Language and Literature (two of the fellowships) Age limit is 32 years for Research Fellowship and 36 years for Sandwich Model Fellowship as on 1.10.2004. II. Short-term fellowships for the year 2004 for students registered for Ph.D. in Indian Universities/Institutions. Applicants should have established contacts with German Institute/ Academic. Applications in the prescribed proforma through the Head of the University/Institute/College should reach the UGC office in New Delhi on or before 15th September, 2003.
