The valedictory function was presided over by Prof. S.N. Hegde and the Chief Guest of the function was Prof. K.K. Verma, Vice-Chancellor, LNIPE, Gwalior.

The Academic Staff Colleges (ASC), a scheme of the UGC, was started in 1987, to orient teachers for a new thrust on innovative teaching and learning in the higher education system. The All India meet of the Directors of the Academic Staff Colleges held at the University of Mysore during 2nd – 3rd June, 2003 deliberated on the role of ASCs as new centres of knowledge dissemination techniques. The meeting which was inaugurated by Prof. Arun Nigavekar, Chairman, UGC, was attended by about 41 delegates from 51 ASCs. Prof. V.T. Patil, Vice-Chancellor, Pondicherry University, Prof. Sureshwar Sharma, Commission Member, Prof. K.K. Verma, Vice-Chancellor, LNIPE, Gwalior, Prof. Ajit Kembhavi, IUCAA, Pune and Dr. N.K. Jain, Joint Secretary, UGC were guests of honour. The function was presided by Prof. S.N. Hegde, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, Mysore. In his inaugural address, Prof. Nigavekar underlined that the ASCs need to concentrate on the new area of “Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for Quality Education”, so that they succeed in enhancing their competence by developing quality class-room teachers while acting as new centres
