The University Grants Commission strived to promote teaching and research in emerging areas in humanities, social sciences,literature, pure sciences, engineering & technology, pharmacy, medical, agricultural sciences, etc.
The main purpose was to promote excellence in research in higher education by providing financial support to teachers of universities and colleges under the scheme.
